  • More than half of the population lives in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, and the other two big cities: Kutaisi and Batumi.
  • The government of Georgia is a republic and it has one chamber and parliament. The Leader of Georgia is the first woman president Salome Zurabishvili, with Giorgi Gakharia serving as Prime Minister.
  • The population of Georgia is about 4.003 million people. Major ethnic groups in Georgia include the Georgians – 87 %; Azeri, 6% (from Azerbaijan); and Armenian 4.5%. Russians, Ossetians, Yazidis, Ukrainians, Kists ( an ethnic group primarily living in Pankisi) and Greeks are the other ethnic groups living in Georgia.
  • The official language in Georgia is Georgian. Other languages spoken in Georgia include Azeri, Armenian, and Russian, but the official language of the Abkhazia region is Abkhaz.
  • The country of Georgia is 84% Orthodox Christian and 10% Muslim. Christianity became the official religion in the 4th century.
  • Georgia is strategically located in the Caucasus Mountains and it is bordered by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey, and the Black Sea.
  • Georgia has a very pleasant Mediterranean, subtropical kind of climate because of the Black Sea and protection from the north cold weather via the Caucasus Mountains. These mountains make the climate even more special. In Georgia, each season of the year is strongly expressed.
  • Georgia’s main mission at this stage is EU and NATO membership. Its currency is the Georgian lari (GEL). Its agricultural products include grapes (wine), sugar beets, tobacco, plants for oils, citrus fruits and hazelnuts. People also have bees, silkworms, poultry, sheep, goats, cattle, and pigs. Half of the economy really comes from those agricultural products, employing about one -quarter of the working population.
